Havoc in Haiti

A 7.0-magnitude earthquake rattled Haiti as darkness descended on the republic on January 12, 2010. Buildings were reduced to rubble, lamppost wires were strewn about as the intensity of the quake uprooted or snapped power lines.....wailing in the distance, wailing up close.

As the sun rose over Port-au-Prince on January 13, the trail of destruction left behind by the massive quake soon became apparent. The US government has promised "an aggressive, coordinated [aid] effort" and no doubt many other countries across the globe will be helping Haitians overcome this disaster.

In the midst of all the mess, I couldn't help but notice how quickly support groups were formed on popular social networking site Facebook. At the time of this post, 15687 people had joined the group
Support the Victims of the Earthquake in Haiti.

Kudos to the international community for their response thus far!

May the response effort continue to be swift, organized, and effective and may the people of Haiti show their resilience yet again by [literally] picking up the pieces and rebuilding their country.

Our prayers go out to the people of Haiti, especially to those directly affected by the event. Help in any way you can.
